This morning I went and checked out the Vivienne Westwood exhibit in Tai Koo Place at the Artis Tree… It is was pretty cool. I am still trying to work out her personal look, but there was some amazing stuff there. I am no fashionista, that is for sure… but what I loved about the Westwood stuff was the texture. Literally and metaphorically.
The exhibit is traveling around the world, I believe it’s permanent home is the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and it is a pretty cool retrospective of VW and her work.
Westwood’s rebel attitude at times seems a little affected… but in truth it still plays. She sees things that, once I saw them I was like, ‘Oh yeah, of course…’ but I would never have seen them unassisted. That in itself seems cool. I especially like the notion of the rebel inside:
And I bet she is pretty wild to hang around… the woman has clearly seen some pretty major stuff. Punk rock in the UK in the 70s? I’d have liked to seen it. The exhibit includes some of her stories and interviews which add a lot to the already varied visual texture of her stuff. [Quite a mix to combine the corset and bag-lady looks… no offense to bag-ladies or corsets.]
In the end, I concluded that she actually is pretty damn punk rock for a society dame.
And then of course, there were the shoes.
It was a pretty cool morning.
